Who We Are
he Gazette Printing Company has been established since 1786, making it the second oldest, continuously operating printing company in the country. Originally part of what is now the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Gazette Printing was founded by William Butler and became a separate entity in 1874. At that time, the primary business was city directories instead of commercial printing. Nine such directories were published between 1860 and 1876. In 1935, the plant was moved from its original 14 Gothic Street location to 15 Armory Street in Northampton. A fire destroyed the Armory Street location in December of 1954. The printing company bought the old Plaza Theater building in January of 1955 and set up operation there. A second location at 58 O’Neil Street in Easthampton was added in 1967. The plant in Northampton handled city directories and the Easthampton plant did commercial printing. The directory business was gradually phased out and commercial printing became the main stay of the business. The entire operation was moved to 58 O’Neil Street in March of 1986. In 2006, Mark and Paula Goodwin purchased Gazette Printing Company, adding innovation and new state of the art equipment for a current staff of not just employees, but trained artisans and craftsmen with a combined printing experience as old as Gazette Printing itself.
